Sometimes I'm amazed at the simplicity of happiness. We may fantasize about how happy we would be if we won the lottery, got a promotion, came in first in a race, accomplished a difficult and challenging goal. Yet if we stop and pay attention, it is often the simple moments that actually bring us the most happiness.
Happiness for me this weekend came from quietness and gentle slowness. After a few hectic weeks of stress, it was bliss to sit in our shade garden with a book...watch the final DVRed episode of Glee..listen to a friend play beautiful music at a coffee shop down the street...buy hanging baskets of geraniums...write. I even sort of enjoyed ironing the clothes that had languished in my to-iron basket for months. There was something satisfying about wrinkles disappearing and hangers lining up with fresh clothes.
An eventful weekend? No. But when I stopped to pay attention to what I was feeling, what I noticed was a quiet, peaceful happiness.
Nice.
