A piece of advice: Do not talk politics when someone is standing above you wielding scissors. I speak from experience.
Yesterday, my stylist and I were chatting away as she cut my hair. She has been cutting my hair for close to 20 years, and she's a great stylist. I like her enormously and admire a great deal about her. But yesterday, she brought up the current presidential race.
It turns out we are not on the same page.
We are not in the same book.
We are not even in the same library.
We are, in fact, so opposite in our views that we both became quite impassioned in our discussion. She snipped away angrily, telling me how my views were crazy, and I fumed back at her, shocked at how ill-informed I found her. Finally, as we were both turning a bit red in the face and I was worrying a little about what she might be doing to my hair, she said, "You know, maybe we shouldn't talk about this."
I agreed. As we frantically searched for a way to change the subject, her cat wandered into the salon. We were saved. We both love cats.
And to her everlasting credit, she did not take her views out on my hair.
