June is National Accordion Awareness Month. Break out your polka music and celebrate! (As founder of Closet Accordion Players of America, it's my duty to point out this important information.)
If you have an accordion stuffed in a closet somewhere, pull it out and play it. If you tend to turn up your nose at accordion music, open your mind and listen to something wonderful—a tango, French musette music, or even, yes, classical or jazz accordion. There's a whole world of accordion music out there that you may not even know about.
You might also tune into "The Price Is Right" next Tuesday, June 9th. Drew Carey, the new host of the show, is an accordionist, and one of the prizes is going to be a Petosa accordion. Carey owns a Petosa, and so do I. It is a WONDERFUL accordion. I remember the day my used, 25-year-old Petosa arrived by UPS. I had been taking lessons again and practicing every night before my husband got home from work. That night, he walked in, listened a moment, and called out, "Your Petosa must have come!" He had immediately heard the difference in sound.
I really, really love my Petosa. And, despite all the grief I get about it, I really, really love playing the accordion.
Happy National Accordion Awareness Month. Give an accordionist a hug!
